Hook research
Rank a creator's X posts or YouTube videos by engagement and break down the first line of the best ones: the hook types, the words and what they promise.
The jobShow me the opening lines that work for a creator, so I can learn the pattern.
Step 1
The prompt
In ClaudePick Hook research from Scrollhound's prompts in the + menu and fill in the blanks.
In ChatGPTCopy the prompt, replace the parts in angle brackets, and send it with Scrollhound turned on.
Use Scrollhound to study the hooks of <creator> on <platform>. On X, read their last 200 posts ranked by engagement and take the top 20. On YouTube, list their last 50 uploads, take the 5 most viewed and read the first 30 seconds of each transcript. For each one, copy the opening line exactly and label its hook type (question, bold claim, number, story, contrarian, how-to). Then show which hook types perform best for this creator, the words and structures they repeat, and 10 hook templates I could adapt. Quote people's exact words, put the link after every quote, and say how many posts, comments or videos you actually read. Don't invent quotes or numbers; if the sources don't support a point, say so.

Step 2
What you fill in
<creator>RequiredAn X @handle or a YouTube channel.
Example:
@thejustinwelsh<platform>Optionalx or youtube (default x).
Example:

Step 3
What comes back: a real run
Real run · 27 Oct 2026creator: @thejustinwelshplatform: x
What it read: Justin Welsh's top 119 X posts, ranked by engagement.
Pattern: one-sentence claims that flip a common belief; "successful vs unsuccessful people" contrasts recur.
In the terminal
The same job with the Scrollhound CLI, for Claude Code and other agents.
$scrollhound x posts <@handle> --sort top --limit 200
$scrollhound yt channel <@handle> --limit 50
$scrollhound transcript <video url>
Questions
What does the Hook research recipe need?
Scrollhound added to Claude or ChatGPT as a connector, and an x @handle or a youtube channel. It reads X, YouTube.
Does it make things up?
The prompt tells the AI to quote people's exact words with a link after each quote, to say how much it read, and not to invent quotes or numbers. Every quote links to its source, so you can check it.
Does it post anything?
No. Scrollhound only reads. It never posts, likes, follows or asks for your social logins.
