How to let Claude Code read full Reddit threads
Give Claude Code a subreddit's rules, its top posts and whole comment trees, so it works from what people actually wrote instead of a guess.

Short answer
Install the Scrollhound CLI and its skill (npm i -g scrollhound, then scrollhound skill install) and sign in. Claude Code can then read a Reddit post with up to 500 comments, a subreddit's full rules, its top posts and Reddit search, read-only and with a link on every quote.
Paste a Reddit link into an agent and you usually get the post at best. The comments, which is where people disagree, add detail and link to what worked for them, rarely come along. Scrollhound gives Claude Code the whole thing: the post, the comment tree, the subreddit’s rules and Reddit search, all read-only. Nothing is posted, voted on or joined, and you don’t need a Reddit account.
Set it up
Install the CLI (Node.js 22.12 or newer), add the skill so Claude Code knows when to use it, and sign in:
npm i -g scrollhoundscrollhound skill installscrollhound loginlogin opens your browser; sign in with your email and the one-time code we send you. From then
on, Claude Code runs the commands below by itself when you share a Reddit link or ask about a
subreddit. You can also run them yourself to see exactly what the agent sees.
Check a subreddit’s rules first
scrollhound reddit sub SaaSYou get the subreddit’s description, size and its full rules list, in the moderators’ own words. That matters as soon as you ask an agent to help you post somewhere: many subreddits ban self-promotion, links or certain flairs, and an agent that hasn’t read the rules will happily suggest something that gets removed.
See what’s being talked about
scrollhound reddit posts SaaS --sort top --time weekscrollhound reddit posts r/ClaudeAI --sort new --limit 50Each post comes back with its points, share of upvotes, comment count, flair and the start of its
text. The default is the 25 hot posts; --limit goes up to 100 and --time applies to top.
Read a post with its comments
scrollhound reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/… --comments 200Comments are off by default, so a quick look stays short. Add --comments <n> for up to 500 of
them, as nested bullets with OP marking the post’s author and [mod] marking moderators. Sort
them with --sort top|best|new|controversial|old|qa.
Big threads sometimes hold back branches and some comments are removed, so the output always ends by saying how many comments you got out of how many. Claude knows when it is working from part of a discussion.
Search Reddit
scrollhound reddit search "pricing page" --sub SaaS --sort top --time yearLeave out --sub to search all of Reddit. Results default to relevance over the past week.
Things to ask Claude Code
Once the skill is installed you don’t need the commands; ask in plain words:
- “Read the top 25 posts in r/smallbusiness this year about invoicing and list the complaints, with links.”
- “Read this thread in full and group what people are asking for: https://www.reddit.com/r/…”
- “Check r/SaaS’s rules, then tell me whether my launch post would be allowed there.”
Every quote comes back with its link, so you can check the source.
In Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients
The same reads are available as MCP tools: reddit_get_subreddit, reddit_list_posts,
reddit_get_post and reddit_search. Add https://api.scrollhound.com/mcp as a connector
(Claude.ai, ChatGPT, any other client)
and ask the same questions there.
What it costs
Reading a post is 1 credit, with or without its comments. See limits and credits for the rest, and the reddit command reference for every flag.
Questions
Do I need a Reddit account?
No. Scrollhound reads public posts, comments and subreddit rules without a Reddit login, and it never posts, votes or joins anything.
How many comments can Claude Code read on one post?
Up to 500, as a nested tree with the post's author and moderators marked. Comments are off by default; ask for them with --comments. The output always says how many comments you got out of how many.
Can it check whether my post fits a subreddit's rules?
Yes. scrollhound reddit sub <name> returns the full rules in the moderators' words, so Claude Code can check a draft against them before you post.
Does it work in Claude or ChatGPT, not just Claude Code?
Yes. Add https://api.scrollhound.com/mcp as a connector and the same reads are there as tools: reddit_get_subreddit, reddit_list_posts, reddit_get_post and reddit_search.
